CalSERVES (Cool School)

CalSERVES AmeriCorps Program

Wright Charter School and the Wright School District partner with the CalSERVES AmeriCorps program to provide support programs to qualified students that extend from early in the morning until late in the afternoon. These programs engage AmeriCorps members, who make a year-long service commitment to work with our students. The program has two components:

The CalSERVES After School “Cool School” Program provides TK through sixth grade students with a safe and productive place to be from the end of the school day until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This program features daily homework support, math and literacy activities, nutrition and physical education, character education (utilizing the Tribes process), service learning and a variety of engaging enrichment activities.

The CalSERVES Literacy Tutoring Program provides one-on-one reading tutoring four days per week to support struggling readers in first and second grade. This program provides students with individualized instruction and intensive support to promote reading skill development, like increased fluency, accuracy, and comprehension.
